Born in 1993 in Vienna and raised in Slovenia Mojca Lavrenčič is a conductor known for her musical integrity, expressive depth, and human-centered approach to leadership.
Surrounded by music from an early age, she grew up in the small village of Vipava after her family returned to Slovenia. Encouraged by her supportive parents and guided by a demanding yet visionary piano teacher, she developed a strong artistic curiosity and a desire to seek depth beyond local boundaries.
She studied orchestral conducting at the University of Ljubljana under Marko Letonja and gained early professional experience at the SNG Opera and Ballet Ljubljana, assisting renowned guest conductors and leading opera and ballet performances. Seeking further artistic growth, she moved to Switzerland to study with Andrea Marcon at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, where she refined her interpretative voice within an international artistic environment.
Mojca views conducting as a way to connect people and empower musicians. She creates rehearsal spaces built on respect, trust, and collaboration, shaping individual voices into a cohesive musical whole.
She is the founder of the Dvoriščni koncerti (Yard Concerts) festival in her hometown, promoting intimate performances and artistic exchange. With clarity, humility, and strong artistic commitment, Mojca continues to develop her career internationally, driven by the desire to create meaningful musical experiences.
Due to unforeseen circumstances Cuban candidate Jessica Rivero Altarriba will no longer be able to take part in the 2026 Competition. She will be replaced by Slovenian conductor Mojca Lavrenčič, first candidate on the waiting list.
