A cultural centre like no other in the world, the Philharmonie de Paris encourages all audiences to discover and connect with music. It has an ambitious artistic and social project based on an exceptional concert programme, a far-reaching education and outreach policy and a curatorial project combining the permanent collection of the Musée national de la musique with temporary exhibitions.
The Philharmonie de Paris comprises:
• an exceptional programme of concerts open to all musical genres;
• an internationally renowned symphony orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, and a choir;
• a project that pairs the Musée national de la musique’s permanent collection with temporary exhibitions presented alongside modern-day musical composition;
• a large-scale music education and outreach policy open to all aesthetics and audiences, a nationwide youth orchestra programme (Démos) and the Philharmonie des enfants, a space dedicated to the artistic development of children aged 4 to 10;
• A ‘Knowledge’ department which, through a programme of conferences, symposiums and forums, the publication of books and a reference library,nencourages the discovery and sharing of ideas.
The Philharmonie de Paris draws symphonic orchestras from around the world and the biggest names in classical, jazz, contemporary and world music. Orchestre de Paris and the resident ensembles—the Ensemble intercontemporain, Les Arts Florissants, the Orchestre de chambre de Paris, and the Orchestre national d’Île-de-France—are the living pillars of its artistic project.
The institution’s activities take place at a remarkable architectural complex built by Christian de Portzamparc (Cité de la musique, 1995) and Jean Nouvel (Philharmonie, 2015).
